Vonulrick "Von" Martin, a broadcaster/producer, founded Caribbeana Radio Services in 1975 and went on air in 1977 as one of the initial radio personalities of WPFW 89.3 FM. Born in Port-of-Spain, Trinidad and residing in the United States (Washington, DC Metropolitan area) for more than three decades with his family he has cultivated a culture by using his given talent and love for radio. Von is a historical authority on the State-of-the-Arts of the Caribbean, Africa and the Americas. He is the venerable dean of Caribbean Communications. He defines Caribbean music of past and present generations as a cultural expression of life. He is highly regarded as the Ambassador in providing and satisfying the needs of people from the Caribbean, keeping them informed through their music and events happening locally and nationally. Von Martin is an authority who has substance and style to his work. His programs are informative, inspiring and innovative while staying in tune to his public. |

Von Martin Producer, social entrepreneur and activist, radio programmer, historian of all that is Caribbean, from music, to Carnival, and politics. One of the original programmers of Washington, DC’s #1, listener supported radio stations, WPFW 89.3 FM. Creator and producer of “Caribbeana” radio program, since the inception of 89.3 FM, W.P.F.W in 1977. As the producer he aims to “Educate, Entertain, and Enlighten all That Is Caribbean!” Interviewed several Caribbean heads of State since the 70’s, to present day Prime Ministers and major noted figures on the scene. In 1988 he produced the first of 17 annual Caribbean comedy festivals also known as “talk tents” in Trinidad and Tobago at Howard University, Cramton Auditorium. Produces the Caribbeana comedy festival out of pocket with no financial assistance from WPFW. Brings a diverse cast of Caribbean artists to the United States each year to perform in front of crowds nearing 800 individuals. Co-author of the book “Ah Come Back Home” an Afro-centric view of the history of Carnival. Produces Caribbeana aired on WPFW fm radio on an out of pocket budget for over eighteen years. Conducted years of extensive research on the history and development of Caribbean music genres, and the steel pan. Produced radio documentaries on Caribbean culture for national distribution and international dissemination. Traveled extensively throughout Latin America, Caribbean and visited Europe and Africa. |
